Established in 1985 by Dennis and Janet Haungs when their dream of owning and operating a sawmill came true in Lancaster, New York. That was the beginning of Slivers Mill.
With the purchase of a bandsaw mill they began cutting logs into lumber. Next, a kiln was built to dry lumber so it could be sold to local cabinet-makers and custom woodworkers. Janet was sent to the State University of New York Environmental and Forestry College for a comprehensive course in lumber grading and using the NHLA rules.
As the company grew, new equipment such as planers, a jointer, a shaper, bandsaws, a profile grinder, wood copy and metal lathes and moulder were acquired to produce "value-added" products that would be a benefit to their customers. Eventually, it was necessary to buy kiln dried and graded lumber direct from large mills to keep up with demand.
After moving to a larger building in Alden, New York in 1992, the couple increased their product line to include such items as hardwood plywood, stair parts and began stocking a large inventory of moulding. Eventually, the purchase of a machine dedicated to only
making rosettes was made to compliment casing and baseboard profiles which produce superior results in the manufacturing of these little wooden blocks.
Next, Dennis and Janet decided to expand their market nationally and now sell mail order. They are always looking for new and exciting ways to enhance their product line and are looking forward to the future.
